If perhaps there was a mountain in the background or a pretty sunset the flow of the image would look better. My photography teacher explained it in 3 layers, foreground, middle and background. A good structure like that encourages the eyes of your viewers to study the image a little longer since there is more to see, and extra points if it flows nicely.
